A collection of photos from my trip to the International Maritime Museum in Hamburg, Germany. The IMMH features 40,000 maritime items, including a massive selection of model ships, and over a million photographs. It is 9 full floors of maritime history, intricate ship models, marine and ocean research exhibits, and artwork, and it is well worth the visit if this topic interests you.
A massive container ship model at the entrance.
The International Maritime Museum’s entrance with a huge propeller. Right: view from inside.
An impressively intricate ship model with sails - and canons!
Above and left: the largest model there was over 10 feet long. Right: a small model of a shipping port.
Pipe-laying boats manufacture and lay pipe on the seafloor.
Left: a unique model made of amber. Right: model of a research vessel.
Ship in a bottle - extremely impressive.
Yet another beautifully crafted model.
The pallete of colors speaks to me on these container ship models. Orange is such a difficult color for art, and it is highlighted here while playing well with the other shipping container colors.
A large lake a few minutes down the road in central Hamburg featured some boats of its own! (or is this a model?)
Boats!
